What to do with the Gardiner situation?

Post: # 1109522Post Sam23 »

It's an awkward one.

Gardiner has been great for us in the ruck since coming over, and is a great player.

Koschitzke has struggled a LOT as a pure key position forward in the past 2 years. Just doesn't have the body strength to be able to take contested marks up forward (without a run at it).

Koschitzke looks better, and makes us look better when he is playing that floating ruck type. Took a good saving mark down back last night, and numerous last week against WCE.

Also drifts forward and sets up goals, as he did today with Milne.

Also means Koschitzke doesn't have to get bodied as all defenders try to do to him, as he is so easily out positioned.

My worry is, if Gardiner returns, Koschitzke then goes back to playing that forward role and teams start rebounding a lot easier out of our backline.

Thoughts?

I dont think you can play Kosi, MG and Ben in the same side. MG has no where to play except ruck. He cant play forward and obviously cant be on the bench these days for more than 20% game time. I dont see any spots for MG whilst the other 2 play.

Gardiner is our best ruckman and should be played if fit.

How do you fit all 3 in the side?

Frankly, I just hope that we have more fit and able players than we have spots in the team.

Is not our best ruckman in 2011

He is not as good

Ben is a lot better.

He is merely back up now

I look forward to the day we have fitter and "more able" players than we have spots in the side...

That should make for a good side.....

I will be having a good look at Gards for Sandy today. I hope he does well, but he was not convincing against the Bullants.

I get the feeling that Ross will play Gardiner as soon as he is available.

Easy, cheat like Sydney did and have 19 on the ground!

Gardiner was AA and Ben is a long way from that. If Gards is fit and in form he should come straight back in.

Quite simply, Gardiner cannot get a game if Mc Evoy and Kosi are fit.

MG plays at Sandy until his form warrants having a look at him in the seniors. Even then, he only gets picked if Kosi & Ben dont perform. MG needs to stay fit and keep putting pressure on Big Ben to perform. Thats what good sides do.

Gardiner was an all australian in 2003.....

When he was 25yo

He is now 32yo.....has had an knee reco, persistant foot injuries, hamstring issues....he was a gun ruckman at wce....a good ruckman in at stk in 09/10...

But really...he has played 43 games in 5 years
