Re: Tyson Goldsack for Luke Ball
This thread comes up every couple of months. I think it's been done to death and we're all in agreement that it was a massive mistake by a coach who was more concerned with himself and his short-term gains, rather than the mid to long term future of the club.

We wanted Nafan Brown but Malthouse said that he was not going to tear the fabric of the club by trading players. Liar.
Lyon f***ed up.
In hindsight he did but remember Ball's form was very ordinary that year. He was dropped twice. Well once so he could just train and not play and the second time he was actually dropped to the reserves. The pies obviously had a better fitness program than us and he also wasnt required to spread like RL wanted him to do. Anyway it matters all of zero as we cant change the past even though a couple on here knew these things would happen.

Not convinced this Goldsack person even exists. Sounds like a character from an Austin Powers movieCon Gorozidis wrote:Ball for a Goldsack would have been a classic trade for the Benny Hill humourists amongst us but alas it sounds made up.

This is what screwed us over. No leverage + a little tampering = screwed.kosifantutti wrote:Whatever was offered, we were only given the opportunity to deal with one team because Bail refused to go anywhere else.
What round did he do the deal?

Re: Tyson Goldsack for Luke Ball
Probably around the time (August I think) when somebody (Connors?) leaked to Greg Denham that Collingwood were prepared to pay Ball's asking price of 500k per season as against Saints reported offer of 350k per season.satchmo wrote:This is what screwed us over. Surprisingly Ball nominated 500k per season as his asking price when he put himself in that 'magical' draft.
Many (most?) consider Judd a mercenary but at least he ensured WCE got something back for him.
That great upstanding person of impeccable character on the other hand ensured we got zilch for him.

That's how i remember it, & your post should be made a stickyScoop wrote:We asked for one of Goldsack, Dick or N Brown....Collingwood said no, but offered Wellingham and Pick 30....we said no.
We then tried to get everitt from Foots, who said they wanted a pick lower than 22. The filth then offered Wellingham to North for Pick 25 and were going to on trade that and pick 30 for Ball.
Foots held firm and said Pick 25 for Everitt was not on.....and the rest is history....
My thought at the time, four way trades never/rarely work, and in the end had to accept a "no club" trade

Re: Tyson Goldsack for Luke Ball
Weren't we trying to get Andrejs Everitt with the pick for Ball at that stage? Collingwood were trying to get a slightly better pick from North in exchange for Wellingham because the Bulldogs wouldn't accept the one on offer, and we were stuck waiting on those negotiations which ended up falling through.

Yep. Luckily the offer for Dick was withdrawn and we pulled out of the deal.dragit wrote:Brad dick for Luke ball, man that would be depressing... Think I'd prefer the nothing that we ended up with.

Yeah no worries All Ball's fault nothing to do with "master coach" forgetting him on the bench in '09 GF or giving 1st round DP for that piece 0of Essendon excrement!tweedaletomanning wrote:Have to agree.satchmo wrote:This is my enduring memory of Luke. What a shame that is.Mr Magic wrote:

Re: Tyson Goldsack not offered for Luke Ball
This has been written so many times on here..........
I believe Saints asked Coll for DP14 (Lewis Jetta) - looked ok until Coll traded that for Darren Jolly. From then Saints were never going to get a fair deal for Ball - unless Coll were prepared to give up an 'untouchable' similar type player (my guess, say Beams or Sidebottom).
Ross Lyon said after the Trade Period "....''In the end it was 25 and 62 on the table. We were unlikely to use 62 and, in our view, 25 was not going to get Luke Ball (deal) done,'' Lyon said.
http://www.theage.com.au/news/rfnews/sa ... 12835.html
Fact is, Coll never had DP25 - NM did (Aaron Black) so for it to be 'on the table' - there must have been a deal between Coll & NM. Again speculation was that Coll offered DP30 plus a player (maybe Wellingham) to NM for DP25.
/Ball non-trade

Re: Tyson Goldsack for Luke Ball
Yep Ross is to blame for the terrible misses by our team in 09! Yep makes sense. The players lost 2009. Some of those misses were disgraceful in such a big game.whiskers3614 wrote:Yeah no worries All Ball's fault nothing to do with "master coach" forgetting him on the bench in '09 GF or giving 1st round DP for that piece 0of Essendon excrement!tweedaletomanning wrote:Have to agree.satchmo wrote:

Re: Tyson Goldsack for Luke Ball
Try reading the post I was replying to.
Stated that BALL cost us 2010 flag......
I'm suggesting that Lyon's mis use of Ball in 2009 GF led to Ball going, but then your hero had that "jet" Lovett to throw into the midfield so didn't negotiate a deal with Collingwood for Ball. As big a muck-up trading wise as Stewart/Barrot.
