Because normally a second rate ruckman at another club = A first rate ruckman at stkilda 8-)

The Brooks trade needs to be put into context.

We used picks (not the exact ones I don't think - definitely 6) traded for Peter Everitt. This trade not only got rid of the dreadlocked anchor it freed up (reportedly) somewhere between 10-20% of our TPP.

That money would have been used to pay future/up & coming players.

We only had pick six because we traded for it... had #10 quit the game, we never hear of #24 and life would be no different.

Bad trade but not the end of the world...

but when one of the best ruckmen in the league now, Hamish McIntosh gets picked just behind pick 6 then that hurts

I understand that but getting Brooks to the club actually caused more good than harm. (in TPP & team balance terms)

It's still a bad trade but all you can do is to look to improve in area where you have failed in the past. RB & the gang did it. Hopefully GW and his mob will improve again.

If people want to really upset themselves...

The brooks trade has hardly crippled the club, mistakes are made and hopefuly the one thing we get out of it is learning not to let it happen again. Would be highly amusing if brooks came through after all of this though.

Wood yes, but not and that gret a cost.

Brooks has talent....BUT not mental applicaton.

IF they can get his head right....or perhaps rather if Brooks can mentally mature and APPLY HIMSELF more then he could become an AFL Level player.....

There is no gain in being a talented player if you do not have the application. we have seen it time and time agin....ie Beetham...or Rocket Owen etc etc...

If there was one reason (and reality there are many...) why you can say that the Cats won the flag in 2007 it is that viirtually ALL their underachievers got themselves mentally right and they all played to their potential week in week out...rather than at well less than it.

Convince Cameron Wood to come and play for the Saints - offer the Lions pick 26 - they can accept or get nothing.

Use pick 9 for the best available midfielder.

Didn't GT give him "time off" in 2004 to get his head right?

hamish macintosh played about a dozen games for 4 seasons before getting his break in 07

i think of those dozen games most were on the pine and l think about 20 possessions...across the dozen games.

if he was at st kilda they'd be calling for him to be delisted for everyone of those 4 years.

So Macintosh had 2 years before this season Dan, and had 17 games in 06. Obviously your theory is wrong.

then how could we have got him the same draft we traded for brooks

he was drafted in the 2002 draft, meaning his first year was 2003...

his first game was in 2005

he played 17 games in 2006, at 10 disposals a game (rix like?) and about 7 hitouts a game.

he doubled his possessions and trippled his hitouts in 07, from his 06 form.

so all up 16 games coming into 07 with stats that would make blake or rix cringe.

prior to 2007 he was available for selection in 03, 04, 05, and 06. for a game total of 18 games. worst injury he had was a sprained ankle.

he is 6 months younger than Brooks.

Just as well that the other 15 Clubs have perfect recruiting records and St Kilda are the only ones who make trading mistakes

No way somehow we have to play all 38 of ouir listed players every week in the seniors and they all must dominate and play 200+ games.

You love bring up McIntosh but havent the club decided Brooks is a forward not a ruckman. Please give me a name of a forward who has been at a club for 6 years and played 8 games. Also if you must use McIntosh it is completely different to Brooks. One has improved gradually the other has shown no improvement over the years and that is not me saying that it is 2 coaches who have played him 3 times in 2 years.

One hasnt had a knee reco. Also if Brooks played and had the same numbers and output as other back up foward ruckmen people continually hope we chase a lot on here would still want him dumped.

The reco was 5 years ago. That hasnt stopped him playing 3 games in 2 years. And I agree some of the back up ruckmen people suggest on here are nearly as bad as Brooks.

No, 4 actually. He did it in 2003, had all of 2004 off with recovery and played again in 2005 from memory.

To anyone thats had a knee reco a seson or twos grace is not to much to ask especially a ruck forward.
