Confirmed- Raph out for season

I'm not sure, reports seem to indicate the club is choosing to take longer with him by doing more strength and conditioning work to ensure that when he is back this time, there will be less of a chance he has to don the trackies.bergholt wrote:seven, including the split round, but maybe it was a bad one.Moccha wrote:Seems like the staff are being conservative with him. Just got this out of The Australian, Raph is out for the rest of the year.
"Meanwhile, St Kilda has received yet another setback in its bid to make consecutive grand finals.
Defender Raphael Clarke has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after having hamstring surgery last week.
Clarke, who has not played since breaking down in round 12, had a similar tendon-repair operation as his captain Nick Riewoldt.
In round 11, Clarke had a season-high 26 disposals against Richmond.
Full-back Zac Dawson underwent surgery on Saturday to have a screw inserted in his fractured hand and will miss at least two rounds.
However, general manager of football operations Greg Hutchison said yesterday the Saints expected specialist tagger Clinton Jones to be available against the Power at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Jones missed the Saints' 33-point loss to Essendon on Friday night because of an ankle problem.
Their defence has been further weakened by the nine-match suspension to Steven Baker, who becomes available again in the first week of the finals.
In five weeks without Baker, the Saints have won only twice -- against Melbourne and Brisbane.
St Kilda coach Ross Lyon said yesterday he could not explain the Saints' poor performance against the Bombers, other than it may have stemmed from a "mental preparation" issue.
"You could see (bad) signs early," Lyon said.
"I said we were in a lot of trouble about five or six minutes in. I just thought there were some really worrying signs."

This is terrible, terrible news.
Can anyone else confirm beyond The Australian article?
Raph was pretty confident of only being 2wks away from a return at the HoF dinner.

That photo also showed Jesse Smith on the bike, wouldn't have thought he was on the bike either...just an old photo I think Barry.borderbarry wrote:Not so sure about the veracity of that article. Did you see the article in either the Herald Sun or The Age, about the new room we are using to acclimatise players? And did you see who was on the bike? One of them was Raph, and I dont think he would be doing that so soon after an operation.

In spite of the misleading description, that was a stock photo from the training rooms, not the new altitude one.borderbarry wrote:Not so sure about the veracity of that article. This is bad news... 'form' can turn in a week, but injured players this time of year can be terminal.

That is plain awful news. Club should never have played him against Freo- he was clearly injured during the Richmond game.
Just when he was really turning the corner as well.
Those Clarke brothers are cursed!

It is real disappointing for him but it happens far too much with the Clarkes. All we can look forward to is 2011 but I honestly believe he will be an ongoing injury prone player like Xavier. The Clarkes have been, in hindsight, a waste of two first round draft picks.dcstkfc wrote:That is plain awful news. That's just shocking news for all concerned.
I know in one sense he is really only a fringe player (he's been dropped twice in 2 years), but we all seem to understand that he's rather important to our chances of a flag.
Good luck Raph.

The Clarke leg genes seriously suck...
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
